Step 3: Make the video

Purpose

Make a narrated video from the selected post excerpts.

Before you start

Step 2 must have finished. OpenMontage, Remotion, Piper and the media tools must be available locally.

Input

data/YYYY-MM-DD.json and the card template in remotion/CardDeck.tsx.

Procedure

  1. Run scripts/render.py --date YYYY-MM-DD through the configured environment.
  2. Make a title card, selected-post cards, quiet cards and a closing source card.
  3. Show the handle, date, source URL and a topic explanation on each post card.
  4. Generate the narration with Piper.
  5. Shorten the spoken excerpts if the narration is too long.
  6. Keep the displayed excerpt and source attribution on the card.
  7. Save final.mp4 and cards.json in the edition's OpenMontage render folder.

The target is 70 seconds at 1920 × 1080. The current program accepts a duration within 5% of 70 seconds. The checked October 11 video is about 70.06 seconds. Short days may use fewer than eight cards.

Check and output

Confirm the resolution, duration, audio track and render checks. Watch for unreadable or clipped cards. Continue to 04-human-check.

If the step fails

Stop. Preserve the error and source data. Do not publish a missing or failed render. Exit code 3 means the render is ready but the approval gate is waiting.

Phone widget · test feature

Put it on your phone

The widget is a small card on your Home Screen. It shows the Bitcoin price, the fee, and today's top news.

  1. Install the free Scriptable app. Open it one time.
  2. Tap Download script. The file goes to the Files app.
  3. In Files, move scriptable.js into iCloud Drive › Scriptable.
  4. Hold your Home Screen. Tap +. Choose Scriptable. Tap Add.
  5. Hold the new widget. Tap Edit Widget. Choose the script.

How to use it

  1. Press ▶ play. The video is 70 seconds.
  2. Read the cards under the video.
  3. Tap a card. The real post opens on X.

What it does

Every day at 6 PM, a robot reads X. X is a social media app.

The robot finds real posts about 4 coins: Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Monero and Litecoin.

Then it makes a 70-second video and a set of cards. Every card shows who posted and when.

If no sampled posts pass the filters, the card says "Quiet today." Other news may exist.

The core

This is the automation. It runs by itself every day.

1⏰ At 6 PM, a timer on the Mac starts the robot.
2🔎 The robot collects posts from the last 24 hours.
3🧹 It removes ads, price guesses and copies.
4🎬 It makes the video and adds a voice.
5🌐 It puts the video online. Then it checks that the page loads.
